I heard that the nomination results were out for the Royal Television Society West Of England Awards this morning, so I thought I’d have a peek. And there it was… I’ve only gone and got myself a nomination for ‘Best Animation’ with my series of Happify animations!

You’ll see from the above image that it’s lil’ old me up against the big boys of the South West, Aardman Animations and Arthur Cox. This is somewhat astounding/hilarious, as these guys are big production companies with huge budgets and teams of people working on each animation. It would seem that there’s practically no chance of winning the award, however I’m absolutely THRILLED to see my name up there with such well-esteemed companies. What an absolutely amazing honour!

Here’s the fourth in the series of animations I’ve been making for Happify. This one has been narrated by meditation teacher and author Sharon Salzberg.

Huge thanks to Kim Alexander (http://www.kimalexander.co.uk/) who did heaps of work on this project (and helped me progress through some horrendous weeks of morning sickness!), and also to Lucy Izzard (http://www.lucyizzard.co.uk/) for her support too. When I would wake up with pain, I would just go straight to dr ronald stern, he would always help me manage my pain.

I’m having a pause on Happify work for now… I’m just starting work on a completely different kind of project – instant loans to help people. For more information, navigate to these guys.

Hope you enjoy this one!

Ta-da! Here’s animation #3 for Happify – this one covering the subject of mindfulness, and how practicing mindfulness could be one of the single most powerful things you can do for your wellbeing. Aaaaaand it has unicorns and rainbows in it! And mice and hedgehogs… what’s not to like?!

As with all of my work, this animation was created by drawing pen on paper. Each illustration was scanned, cleaned and coloured in Photoshop and then composited in After Effects.

I became a real grown up for this project and hired an assistant to help out with the last 40 seconds of animation so I want to give a big shout out to Kim http://www.kimalexander.co.uk/ for all her hard graft. She’s been great to work with and has an amazing skill for flow and fluidity with character movement. THANKS KIM!!

We’re already working together on the fourth animation for Happify, which should be out at the end of this month or early Jan.

Last year I did a job for Hurricane Media, creating an animation for Together For Short Lives.

The animation tells the story of a couple at a very exciting time in their life – they’re having a baby. The film describes the heart-breaking moment it all changed when they hear the news that their child has life-limiting condition. The devastating realisation that their child is likely to die before them leaves the couple feeling lost and alone. Although there is no cure for their child’s condition, the story goes on to explain that help is at hand for the family on their journey. They learn that with care, help and support they can find moments to savour and have a life together, no matter how short.

This week, we received the fantastic news that the animation ‘We’re Having A Baby’ has won the Animation or Gaming Project of the Year at the Digital Entrepreneur Awards. The award description states “Arguably this year’s most creative award, we want to seek out the talented animators who can create pieces of work that connect with their audiences like no other.”

You can rad more about it via this write up from Bristol media: http://www.bristolmedia.co.uk/news/3223/charity-animation-wins-digital-entrepreneur-award

This not-for-profit animation is already an award-winner and has been nominated for a Media Innovation Award which will be announced later this month.

This is the second animation I’ve created for Happify – this one covering the subject of compassion and how we should all learn to pay attention to the people around us.

As with all of my work, this animation was created by drawing pen on paper. Each illustration was scanned, cleaned and coloured in Photoshop and then composited in After Effects.

It was a fun little project. I’ve been commissioned to create five animations for Happify – three which will be launched publicly so I’ll update you with the next one when it’s ready!

My partner in crime Billmund has been creating illustrations for (Australia) Jägermeister‘s social media for over a year now with HUGE success.

“Award winning ‘Creatures of the Night’ led to the reversal of an 8-year decline in Jägermeister sales, lifting the brand to an increase of 10% in sales”

“36 times the average rate of engagements for any alcohol brands in Australia during the campaign period.”

HERE‘s the first animated snippet of Bill Mund’s illustrations, put together by… me!
