Gobblynne 2013 Animation and Illustration Round Up!

Phew! 2013 was a busy year for me. I spent January in Australia visiting family and friends, but once I was back in the UK I jumped into work-life with a splash.

Commissions:

I made two animations for John Tesh’s “Intelligence For Your Life” program, which consisted of quick ‘life tips’. View the full project here.

I was thrilled to be asked to work for the Wiltshire Museum on their new gallery. I was asked to develop a child-friendly character in collaboration with the Museum’s youth panel. We ended up creating two characters, a worm and a mole named Archie & Ollie, who now appear in a family friendly trail including gallery activity sheets and interactive interpretation panels around the museum. View the full project here.

Li’l Indie Productions, a small independent production company, commissioned me to design their branding including logo, business cards and a short sting (to be used as an intro for all of their films). The client was initially unsure of exactly what he wanted. We chatted everything through thoroughly and narrowed down style and colours and it was great to hear how much the client loved the final outcome. View the full project here.

Two of the projects that I worked on were sadly contractually ‘secret’ so I am unable to share the illustration and animation with you all. I made video for Raw Productions, helping to promote Live Nation, and I also made an animation for BDA Creative for an internal video for Barclays’ staff.

My final commission of the year was from the RSA. I was given a snippet of Brene Brown’s TED talk on “The Power Of Vulnerability” and was asked to animate it. I wrote a script for the animation and discussed it with the RSA. I think we made one little adjustment, then I cracked on with the animation. This project took 30 days to complete and exploded when it was uploaded to YouTube, gaining over 1.25 million views in just 10 days. View the full project here.

Personal Work:

In between commissions I decided to make another 1 second long animation for Animade’s fun “Full Secs” collection (this was my second entry). I made “The Popcorn Trick”. I shall say no more.

I helped wonder-illustrator Billmund by editing three of his illustration process videos. You can see two of them on his YouTube channel here.

I was part of the adrenaline-pumping 0117 competition organised by Encounters, which was an insane challenge to produce a video in 0117 hours. I animated mine (I must be mad!) and ended up in the top 5 of the competition. View the full project here.

Another great accolade for me in 2013 was the sting that I made for e4 for their estings competition, in which I won runners up place. My animated short will be played regularly between programs on e4 for the next year and a half. View the full project here.

Published:

I had my work written about in ‘L’Art Du Pop up’ by Jean-Charles Trebbi, a French author who was creating a book about pop up books. Read more here.

Image Publishing asked me to write two Photoshop tutorials for their magazine Photoshop Creative.

Here are a few of the personal illustrations that I completed in 2013:

The collection includes a wide variety of lifestyle products from fashion and jewellery design to homeware and accessories. You can see my profile on the Objets De Désir website here.

For four months up to Christmas, Objets De Désir set up a fabulous pop-up shop in Cabots Circus in Bristol, and it was a huge success. Read more here. The pop-up shop plans to re-open for Easter.

Stay tuned for news of more exciting projects in 2014. Happy New Year!
